These are just a few things I tell my 2 Sons, 2 Sons in Law and 3 Grandsons.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

There is no Parenting Handbook. We do the best we can with the skills we\u2019ve been given.<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. God put you on this earth for a reason. Trust Him, make it count and make Him proud.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

2. Life is all about relationships. Guard them fiercely.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

3. When shaking hands, grip firmly and look the person in the eye.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

4. Always introduce yourself, even if it\u2019s for the second or third time.\u00a0 You\u2019ll know when they remember you.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

5. Act like you\u2019ve been there before and be confident.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

6. When entrusted with a secret\u2026.keep it!<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

7. Don\u2019t make a mistake in who you marry. It can mess up the rest of your life!<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

8. Become a great listener.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

9. Return a borrowed car with a full tank of gas.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

10. Never burn bridges with anyone…especially friends & bosses.\u00a0 You will need them someday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

11. Choose your words carefully…they are powerful.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

12. Become your own man on your own merits.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

13. Know that when you marry, you marry the whole family.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

14. You are defined by your friends.\u00a0 Choose wisely and carefully.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

15. ALWAYS do the right thing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

16.\u00a0 Be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

17.\u00a0 A sport coat is worth a thousand words.\u00a0 Just sayin!<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

18.\u00a0 Sit in reverence of your Creator, but remember He gave you free will.\u00a0 Do your own work.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

19. Old ways don\u2019t open new doors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

20. Eat lunch with the new kid. He might become your best friend.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

21. Make others feel important\u2026.they\u2019ll remember it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

22. Care about your appearance. First impressions count.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

23. Don\u2019t text anything if you\u2019re angry. It\u2019s permanent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

24. Always respect your parents and treat them with kindness.\u00a0 They changed your diapers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

25. Visit the elderly. You\u2019ll be there someday and you\u2019ll want company.<\/strong><\/p>\n

26. Always be kind\u2026.no matter what.\u00a0 Mean words will come back to haunt you.<\/strong><\/p>\n

28. Be proud of your efforts and accomplishments, but don\u2019t get cute.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

29. Give credit. Take blame.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

30. Always say you’re sorry when you\u2019re wrong. Apologies can undo a lot of damage.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

31. You don\u2019t always have to be right or have the last word.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

32. Don\u2019t be jealous.\u00a0 It\u2019s a waste of time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

33. When the truth is delivered with respect, how the other person responds is not your problem.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

34. If you\u2019re the smartest person in the room\u2026.you\u2019re in the wrong room!<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

35. There is nothing better than a confident man, but understand the balance of confidence and humility.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

36. God wants you to walk with Him, but the Devil sends a limo\u2026.walk don\u2019t ride!<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

37. Say hello first… with a smile. Instant friendships happen that way.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

38. If you want to know what makes you unique, sit for a caricature.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

39. It takes failure to realize success.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

40. Appreciate your youth and good looks. It won\u2019t always be there.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

41. Be like a duck…remain calm on the surface and paddle like crazy underneath.<\/strong><\/p>\n

47. Relationships with God, family and friends are the most important things in the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n

48. There is no handbook for life. Do the best you can.<\/strong><\/p>\n

49. If others say you can\u2019t, show them you can.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I could go on and on\u2026.thanks for listening and maybe taking a little of this to heart. Family is everything to me and \u201cMy Boys\u201d are special. I don\u2019t know if you know this, but Wes and Wen are adopted. They are six weeks apart in age and we got them one week apart. They are one of the biggest miracles of my life. They are still best friends. I have 2 Son in Laws and 3 Grandsons. It\u2019s amazing to watch the next generations.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I like to think we did something right\u2026.maybe?!<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

More to come on adoption – 3 of my 4 kids are adopted\u2026.then I got the 4th surprise of my life when I was least expecting it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
